If engineers were happy with that then disc and roller cutters for hard-rock TBMs would never have been developed as an alternative to drill and blast. Last month the world’s oldest working digital computer was rebooted after three years of painstaking rebuilding. The machine was found in a storeroom where it had been left abandoned for 15 years. In its prime in the 1950s the computer had been used by the UK’s atomic energy research programme. The 2.5t machine will now take pride of place at Bletchley Park, the site of the English code breaking efforts during World War II.

Workers missing after Cambodia tunnel collapse

Three workers are still missing in a rupture of a concrete tunnel at the Atay hydropower dam being constructed in western Cambodia, officials have told local news reporters. The incident happened on 1 December 2012 at the upper part dam when a tunnel on the left side dam collapsed, causing water in the reservoir to flood the dam’s lower part.

First TBM for Malaysian MRT ready

The first TBM for the MRT Sungai-Buloh-Kajang project is now ready for delivery to Malaysia, local news reported earlier today. The machine, which is expected to be in use by May 2013, took nine months to be put together and is now being dismantled and prepared for shipping to Malaysia from Germany.
