Mammoet delivers first Tideway TBM

Great Britain - Mammoet has delivered the first TBM to the Thames Tideway Tunnel project in Central London. The machine was delivered to the 7km west section of the project. It is now in the hands of the contractor, a JV of Bam Nuttall, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty.

Upgrading bond Street

London Underground Bond Street Station Upgrade Project (BSSU) is due for completion and open to public in April. In December’s British Tunnelling Society Meeting, the project was told from the perspective of the SCL designer and the contractor working in a one team environment. Through innovation and utilising the latest technology they pushed the SCL design boundaries and developed a safe system of work by minimising the impact on infrastructure while optimising the excavation times to create necessary additional underground space. The speakers were Richard Watts, project manager, London Underground; Steve Nuttall, project director, Color; Andreas Spiegl, principal tunnel engineer, Dr Sauer & Partners and senior SCL engineer on site

Court rules against Glendoe client

Great Britain – A court has issued its ruling on the Glendoe collapse, finding in favour of contractor Hochtief at the expense of client Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE). The decision was given on 21 December and denied SSE a GBP 130M (USD 160M in Jan 2017) damages claim against Hochtief. The contractor will however have to pay low availability damages of GBP 1M (USD 1.24M in Jan 2017) for not completing the remedial work.

Arup-Atkins win Thames Tideway West consultancy

GREAT BRITAIN – Atkins and Arup will provide design and engineering services on the west section of the Thames Tideway project. The contractors for this section, BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty, will tunnel 6km of 7.2m-diameter tunnel from the Acton Storm Tanks at the extreme west of the scheme, to the start of the central section at Carnwath Road.
