Ridham fires up

Great Britain – The precast facility at Ridham Dock in Kent has begun work. The factory will supply the Ferrovial Agroman-Laing O’Rourke JV with concrete segments to line the Northern Line extension project. The Morgan Sindall-owned site received a GBP 8M (USD 11.1M) order for the project.

Britain launches segmental lining code of practice

GREAT BRITAIN – A specification for the design of concrete segmental linings was launched in mid-April. The document, “Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 8810:2016 – Tunnel Design: Design of concrete segmental linings: Code of practice” was produced by the British Standards Institute (BSI) and lead technical author Arup.

Arup-Atkins win Thames Tideway West consultancy

GREAT BRITAIN – Atkins and Arup will provide design and engineering services on the west section of the Thames Tideway project. The contractors for this section, BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty, will tunnel 6km of 7.2m-diameter tunnel from the Acton Storm Tanks at the extreme west of the scheme, to the start of the central section at Carnwath Road.

Lee Tunnel secondary lining complete

GREAT BRITAIN – The contractor has completed the secondary lining on the Lee Tunnel project in London, UK. A joint venture of Morgan Sindall, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Bachy Soletanche, has completed the secondary lining of Thames Water’s 7km sewer tunnel.

Underground freight trial to go ahead

Ground prepared for tunnelling in Yorkshire, UK

Contractors are preparing the ground for a tunnelling machine that is expected to deliver GBP 40M (USD 64M) improvements to Bridlington, Yorkshire, bathing waters. The machine, which will be used to construct a new storm water tunnel, is part of the water improvement scheme for the town and will extend underground from Palace car park to the south promenade, local news reports stated.
