Tottenham Court Road tube contract awarded

14 January 2010

Transport for London has awarded a joint venture between BAM Nuttall and Taylor Woodrow a contract to upgrade Tottenham Court Road tube station.

The contract is worth about £250M.

Construction is due to begin in early 2010. The project will take 80 months with a target completion date of September 2016.

The station will be enlarged to twice the current capacity, including a ticket hall almost six times larger than the existing one.

Additional features include new station entrances, a new concourse linking the tube station with the overground one, and modernization of the existing passageways and platforms. More escalators and five lifts will provide step free access throughout the station.
