TfL to issue contract notice for Elephant & Castle upgrade

23 February 2023

Transport for London (TfL) plans to issue the contract notice for the Elephant & Castle Station capacity upgrade on March 29.

TfL has published a periodic indicative notice to raise market awareness of the upcoming procurement for stage one of the project. It will hold an industry day on March 17 and plans to start the formal procurement process on March 29 with the issue of the contract notice.

Those wishing to attend the industry day must submit their expression of interest via the SAP Ariba Portal no later than midday on March 10.

Elephant & Castle Station Capacity Upgrade is a key element of the London Mayor’s 2018 Transport Strategy to deliver step-free access and capacity improvement across the London Underground network.

The project will be delivered in two stages: stage one is early enabling and civils construction; stage two is fitout/bringing into use.

TfL will be seeking to appoint a single supplier to deliver stage one.

It comprises the design and construction of new connecting passenger tunnels between the new station box and the existing London Underground station, including the associated enabling works and construction of sections of the new station box temporarily omitted (by the developer from the construction of the new station box) to facilitate the tunnelling works.

There are additional options in the contract to instruct the design and delivery of localised premises and MEP works to implement the temporary condition at the interface between the new tunnels and the existing station.
