Sustainability key at bauma Conexpo India

8 February 2023

Sustainable technologies were a major focus at this year’s bauma Conexpo India.

Speaking at the event in Delhi last week, the minister of roads, transport and highways, Shri Nitin J Gadkari, highlighted the potential for alternatives to fossil fuels.

“Electric, hybrid, and biofuel-compatible machinery holds great potential to reduce the fossil fuel dependence of the construction equipment industry and improve productivity and cost efficiency outcomes for the infrastructure development and construction industries. Hence, I am delighted to see the new technology displays at this trade fair,” he said.

Dimitrov Krishnan, president of the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers’ Association and managing director, Volvo CE India, also noted the emphasis on cleaner technology.

“The main highlight of this show has been the strong interest in sustainable technologies and manufacturers’ initiatives to cater to this surging demand through innovative product launches,” he said.

This year’s show, held from January 31 to February 3, was the six edition of the biennial international trade fair for construction and mining machinery, and the first since the start of the Covid pandemic. It attracted 601 exhibitors from 26 countries and 41,108 visitors from 83 countries. In comparison, the last edition, held in December 2018, attracted 668 exhibitors from 26 countries and 39,173 participants from India and neighbouring states.

Exhibitors at this year’s event included Robbins, Terratec, Larson & Toubro, Tata, Komatsu India, Konecranes, Manitou South Asia, Terex, Volvo and Toyota.

bauma Conexpo India brings together the expertise of the world’s top two construction equipment trade fairs: bauma, organised by Messe München, and Conexpo-CON/AGG, organised by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

The 7th edition of bauma Conexpo India will be held in December 2024.
