17 November 2021

Nordic construction and project development company Skanska has signed a contract with Stockholm’s regional council to build a new section of line for the metro at Nacka, Sweden.

Worth around US$135m, the contract includes the construction of a new tunnel around 1,200m long, platform space and two ticket halls for Nacka station.

The project forms part of the expansion of the new Blue Line, with Nacka the last station on the eastern extension. The work mainly includes the excavation of rock tunnels and shafts, rock work above ground, concrete work, temporary installations and traffic diversions.

To minimise climate impact, Skanska said the design and construction will be conducted in accordance with the CEEQUAL environmental certification system, with the aim of achieving a ‘Very Good’ grade.

Construction is scheduled to start in early 2022 with the project expected to be completed in early 2026.
