New Tyne Crossing prequalifiers

Four bidders have prequalified to build a second tunnel under the river Tyne in England for the New Tyne Crossing.

Balfour Beatty; Laing O'Rourke; Bouygues and a joint venture of Mowlem/Nuttall are said to have prequalified for the £170M (US$313M) private finance initiative project. Pending approval from Department for Transport, the scheme involves the construction of 1.5km of immersed tube tunnel adjacent to the existing crossing.
