Motts to work on Durban tunnel

23 August 2004

Mott MacDonald has been chosen to be part of the team developing a new 4.5m diameter, 500m long undersea tunnel to carry services across Durban harbour in South Africa.

The harbour is the busiest container port and harbour in Africa. Dredging for planned expansion will impact the existing tunnel, so the new deeper tunnel is critical to the harbour expansion plans.

Construction work is expected to get underway in 2005 with completion by 2006.
