Arup and Mott MacDonald were awarded a contract to design and supervise construction of the Central Kowloon Route (CKR) in Hong Kong. A 3.9km rock tunnel and a section of underwater tunnel will be required under the CKR scheme, as well as cut and cover tunnels and interchanges. Project responsibilities were split 50:50.

KM Yeung, managing director of Mott MacDonald Hong Kong said, "This highway and tunnel scheme will be a strategic part of Hong Kong's Route Six highway network and will be key to relieving traffic congestion in Kowloon."

Arup director and East Asia highways business leader David Pegg said, "We are delighted to win another major infrastructure project in Hong Kong. With proven experience in managing mega projects, we are uniquely placed to deliver this strategic highway that will maximise social and economic benefits with positive impact on the daily lives of the local community."
