Mansell awarded second London Underground ventilation contract

5 November 2010

Mansell has been awarded a GBP 6.3m (USD 10.2m) contract to upgrade the ageing ventilation shafts on the Victoria Line. Work has already begun and should be completed by November 2011.

The four mid-tunnel fans were designed to manage temperature on the line. The upgrades as specified allow the removal of up to 50 per cent more heat than the current system.

Opened in stages between 1968 and 1971, the Victoria Line is currently undergoing a ‘complete renewal’ that will see capacity increase by 21 per cent, with a 16 per cent decrease in journey time. The renewal is scheduled for completion in 2012. Metronet, the client, is now part of Transport for London and is the organisation responsible for ‘maintenance and renewal of the Victoria Line’s assets’.

This was the second contract that Mansell has been awarded by Transport for London for mid-tunnel ventilation shafts.
