Glendoe design approved

The first stage design for the construction of a hydroelectric power station at Glendoe, Scotland, that includes 17km of tunnelling has been approved (T&TI July 2003). The client, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), has been working to produce tender documents with their engineer Jacobs Gibbs Ltd. and T&TI has learnt they intend to send them out this week to the prequalified groups of contractors and design partners.

The shortlisted groups confirmed by Mike Seaton, project manager for SSE were: Balfour Beatty with Lahmeyer International; Morgan Est and Skanska with Mott Macdonald and Scott Wilson Piesold; Nuttalls and Amec with Halcrow; Hoctief with Electrowatt Infra and Babtie Group Ltd.; Impregilo SpA with Montgomery Watson. Seaton added that SSE were hopeful to award the contract by the end of November.
