First TBM for Delhi Metro phase three gets delivered

The first of six TBMs for Delhi Metro Phase III was delivered at the end of November, Terratec announced recently. The official ceremony was held in the presence the client - a JV between Metrostroy O.S. of Russia and ERA Infra of India - after seven months from receipt of order.

The TBM is a 6.61m EPB Shield. Terratec stated the machine has been designed for the conditions of this project and incorporates features such as the VFD electric driven cutter head, a versatile design of the cutting tools that are intercheageable with 17in (432mm) roller disc cutters, the active type articulation for the shield, and the tailĀ¹s built-in 2-Liquid backfilling system.

Terratec added that the second TBM for this project will be delivered to the JV before the end of the year. The JV intents to use the two TBMs for the execution of the tunnelling works between Kashmere Gate and Jama Masjid Stations, bringing the total combined distance of that each machine will bore to some 2,042m.
