Design Engineers – Underground Professional Services

Locations: Swynnerton (Staffs), London Euston, Rugby

Underground Professional Services is a specialist consultancy within Morgan Sindall, providing a comprehensive range of expert and technical services to the international tunnelling community. As one of our design engineers, you will have the opportunity to engage in complex work with the potential to build new skills, deliver groundbreaking tunnelling design solutions and develop your career. With the majority of our work being D & C contracts you can follow your designs through from concept to construction.

We have successfully delivered underground construction worth over £1 billion, demonstrating a track record of innovation and value engineering on some of the UK’s most prestigious projects. Our current contracts include Lee Tunnel, Crossrail’s C510 Station Tunnels Detailed Design and the tunnels associated with the Nuclear New Build programme. Now, we’re looking for experienced engineers who have:

• the drive to deliver to agreed customer requirements;
• the commercial awareness to enhance profitability;
• the technical skills to produce detailed solutions, calculations, reports and drawings.

Significant experience in and knowledge of underground construction/tunnelling techniques is essential, with strong understanding of the selection and design of tunnel linings in the construction of shafts and sprayed concrete lined tunnels. You must also:

• hold Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
• have a degree in civil or structural engineering
• understand CDM regulations and UK technical standards
• have knowledge of project costs, value and contracts
• be able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver major projects

We are passionate about research and development to provide innovative savings to our projects and have links with the UK’s top universities including Warwick, Imperial and Cambridge. We also have our own R&D laboratory where our design engineers can get involved with research and development projects.
