Metro board approves Purple line contract

USA – The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) board approved a USD 1.36bn contract with Tutor Perini/O&G to build stations, track, systems and testing for Section 3 of the Purple Line Extension between Century City, the Wilshire/Westwood Station and the Westwood/VA Hospital Station.

US – Tutor Perini Corporation announced October 3 its subsidiary, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, has been identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Water and Power as the low bidder for the USD 121M River Supply Conduit Improvement Upper Reach – Unit 7 Project (RSC Unit 7). The project was bid earlier this year, with Frontier-Kemper providing the low bid. The customer subsequently opted to re-bid the project, and Frontier-Kemper was again designated as the low bidder.

Tutor Perini Corporation announced that the Frontier-Kemper/Tutor Perini Joint Venture has received a notice of intent to award a contract from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the Purple Line Extension Section 3 Tunnels Project. The contract value is anticipated to be approximately USD 410M.

Canada – A Frontier-Kemper Constructors and Aecon Group JV announced December 19 it has received notice to proceed from Rio Tinto for a contract valued at approximately CAD 337M (USD 274M) to complete the construction of the remaining 7.6km section of a 16km second tunnel at the Kemano Generating Station in British Columbia.

Washington state supreme court won't hear Brightwater lawsuit

The Washington State Supreme Court has declined to review a lower court ruling that affirmed King County is entitled to more than USD 129M in damages from a tunnelling contractor that defaulted on key contractual obligations as part of the Brightwater tunnel construction, the county announced September 12.
