International – Tony Barry, a senior consultant at Aurecon has been appointed vice president of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC). The announcement was made at the organisations annual infrastructure conference in Berlin.

This global role will involve Tony supporting FIDIC’s mission of developing and implementing strategic goals for the consulting engineering industry on behalf of its 104 member associations.

Barry said, “It is a great leadership opportunity to serve the industry I have enjoyed working in for so many years. Collaborating with such a range of international colleagues enables FIDIC to improve the business conditions for the industry, its capability, quality of infrastructure development, the environment, and in many ways, society.”

At the conference, FIDIC also announced successful completion of the Pilot FIDIC Certified Consulting Engineer (FCCE) programme that, over four years, has trained more than 1,400 Chinese engineers (and a number of foreign students) in the FIDIC body of knowledge.

The successful program is but one aspect of Tony’s contribution this year, having joined the management board of the FCCE programme as a nominee of the FIDIC Board. He commented: “The course was hailed a great success with employer feedback confirming that FCCE engineers have a much better understanding of consulting engineering.

“This is further evidenced by tender evaluation boards awarding high marks for teams that include FCCE qualified engineers. The programme is expected to continue in China and may be made available in other countries around the world.”
