Still time to enter the ITA Awards

18 June 2020

Time is quickly running out to enter the ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards which close on June 30. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the event will be staged as a virtual one at the end of the year, although the exact date has yet to be confirmed.

The ITA Awards aim to recognise outstanding contributions to the tunnelling sector, whether in terms of projects completed, technical innovations or individual successes. This is the sixth occurrence of the event, the previous five having taken place in Switzerland, Singapore, France, China and the US.

Two new categories have been added: ‘Overcoming the challenge’ recognises projects which have overcome foreseen or unforeseen challenges during excavation and construction; while ‘Oddities of the Underground’ celebrates the ‘creativity, ingenuity and imagination of the human spirit in its endeavours underground’.

The eight award categories are:

Major Project of the Year: over €500m;
Project of the Year: €50m – €500m;
Project incl. Renovation of the Year: under €50m;
Technical Innovation of the Year;
Overcoming the Challenge;
Oddities of the Underground;
Innovative & Contributing Underground Spaces;
Young Tunneller of the Year.

As usual, there will also be an award for Lifetime Achievement that will be conferred by a decision of the ITA.
