Sika to acquire MBCC Group (formerly BASF)

23 November 2021

Switzerland-based construction and industry chemicals group Sika is to acquire MBCC Group, the former BASF Construction Chemicals.

The move, which will both complement and broaden the majority of Sika’s core technologies, aims to accelerate its growth strategy and reinforce its position as a promoter of sustainability. MBCC has sales of around US$3.1bn and is one of the most prominent companies globally in construction chemicals.

Commenting on the proposed acquisition, Thomas Hasler, CEO of Sika, said: “Together we will reinforce our complementary range of products and services across the entire construction life cycle. With our combined portfolio, we will enable and accelerate the future of sustainable construction for the benefit of customers, employees, shareholders, and coming generations."

Although the deal is subject to regulatory approval, Sika said it was confident that the required clearances would be obtained to enable the transaction to close in the second half of 2022.
