Pre-qualification notice launched for Montreal metro tunnel

21 April 2022

A pre-qualification notice has been issued for the construction of the 6km tunnel for Montreal’s Blue Line metro extension.

The project will mark the first use of a TBM by the Société de Transport de Montréal (STM).

“This will be the first use of a TBM in the long history of the STM,” said Marie-Claude Léonard, interim CEO of the STM. “It will allow us to speed up the excavation process and will help us to build high-quality infrastructure as we extend the Blue Line of the Montreal metro.”

The TBM is expected to make progress of 13-15m per day on average.

The US$5.13bn Blue Line extension is one of the projects developed under plans by the government of Quebec and the City of Montreal to revitalise the east end of Montreal. It includes the construction of five new stations and is due to be delivered in 2029.
