Metro board approves Purple line contract

28 May 2019

USA – The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) board approved a USD 1.36bn contract with Tutor Perini/O&G to build stations, track, systems and testing for Section 3 of the Purple Line Extension between Century City, the Wilshire/Westwood Station and the Westwood/VA Hospital Station.

The Metro previously awarded this contract in February but is doing a second approval after a key step — the FTA issuing a Letter of No Prejudice — was reached this spring.

The Westside Purple Line Extension Section 3 Project consists of approximately 2.56 miles of twin-bored tunnels and two underground stations located at Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital. Frontier-Kemper/Tutor Perini joint venture has a USD 410M contract for tunnelling work. Purple Line Section 3 is scheduled to be operational in 2027.

Tutor Perini/O&G is also building the second section of the Purple Line Extension through a USD 1.37bn contract awarded in 2017. The second section will add another 2.6 miles (4.1km) to the Purple Line with one station at Wilshire/Rodeo in downtown Beverly Hills and a station in Century City.
