Mareer Chowk tunnel receives approval

Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, the chief minister of the Pakistani province of Punjab, has approved construction of Mareer Chowk tunnel project in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

The project will was approved in order to provide relief to the citizens and for the resolution of traffic problems. The development will be executed with an investment capital of PKR 360M (USD 4.1M).

The proposal to commence the tunnel project immediately was submitted by member of the national assembly, Shakeel Awan and member of the provincial assembly, Shehreyar Riaz.

Upon completion, the project will reportedly resolve the traffic congestion problem as the traffic of Katchary, Morgah, Gulzar-e-Quaid and other areas would cross the bridge freely, as the railway bridge on Liaquat Bagh to Saddar side would be widened by 20ft (6.1m).
