HONG KONG - The 2.35km northbound tunnel between Mai Po and Ngau Tam Mei in the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link project (XRL) was completed with the successful breakthrough of the TBM last month. Penta-Ocean Construction was awarded the contract four years ago.

The excavation works for the Mai Po to Ngau Tam Mei Tunnel commenced in September 2011. The southbound tunnel was completed in July 2013, and installation works are now underway for the rail tracks, overhead lines, signalling systems and telecommunications systems.

Construction work for invert slabs, cross passages and walkways, is following the breakthrough of the northbound tunnel.
