Qatar Railway Corp (QRail) has invited ‘expressions of interest’ from local, regional and international companies for the design and construction of the Qatar Integrated Railways Project (QIRP) – Doha Metro.

“The invitation is a major opportunity for local contracting companies to join in consortia with large international contractors to design and build six urgent construction packages that include 22km of underground tunnels as well as 15 underground stations in the first stage,” said Eng Saad Ahmed Al Muhannadi, ceo of QRail. Qrail held at set of industry awareness events in May and July this year, attracting more than 700 representatives from around the world.

In addition to the underground work the project scope includes elevated works, roads and utilities diversions, described as critical. QRail, set up to support and co-ordinate the growth of Qatar’s rail industry, will develop the appropriate legal and legislative frameworks to ensure that all local and international regulations are met, said a statement.

In April QRail signed a 5-year contract with Parsons International and AECOM of the US to construct the Lusail Light Rail Transit system, which includes 7km of underground route and seven underground stations, within a total of 30km and 24 stations, to serve the new Lusail City development.
