Hatta pumped storage project contract awarded
16 October 2019UAE – A Strabag-led consortium will design, build and commission the Hatta pumped storage project (PSP) in Dubai. Strabag, along with partners Andritz of Austria and Ozkar Insaat of Turkey will build the EUR 340M scheme for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
The PSP is located in the Hajar Mountains, some 140km southeast of the city. The contract calls for the construction of a 36m-diameter, 70m-deep turbine shaft to house two Francis turbines with a power output of 250MW. A 1.2km-long pressure tunnel will connect the existing lower reservoir to the new upper reservoir. The project also calls for two drill-and-blast road tunnels of 470m and 440m respectively and other ancillary structures.
