Delhi Metro inviting bids for Phase 4 tunnelling works

14 April 2021

Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) is inviting bids from parties in eligible countries for the design and construction of twin tunnels by shield TBM on the 20.2km Aerocity to Tughlakabad Corridor of the Delhi Metro Rapid Transit (DMRT) Project Phase 4.

Also included in the tender are a cut-and-cover tunnel box and four underground stations at Aerocity, Mahipalpur, Vasant Kunj and Kishangarh with entry and exits, connecting subways and all temporary works. The work is scheduled to be completed in a 42-month period.

Tenders from eligible bidders for the design, execution and completion of Contract DC-8 can be submitted online as e-tenders and will be treated in accordance with international competitive bidding practice and JICA’s single-stage, two-envelope bidding procedure.

Bidding documents can be downloaded following registration on the e-tendering website at https://eprocure.gov.in/eprocure/app. Bids must be submitted in the period from 24-31 May 2021 and will be opened on June 1 2021.

Last month, DMRC received a US$1.15bn loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the expansion of Phase 4 following the stoppage of work shortly after December 2019 due to a lack of funds. Further disruption was caused by the pandemic which resulted in a shortage of labourers.

The Aerocity to Tughlakabad Corridor is one of three priority corridors that will expand the 389km DMRC network by around 62km; the other two are the 28.9km Janakpuri West-RK Ashram corridor and the 12.5km Maujpur-Majlis corridor. These three are part of the overall six corridors that make up the US$6bn Phase 4 which will have a total length of 104km.
