Chennai Metro invites bids for Corridor 4 line

Chennai Metro, Chennai, on India’s east coast, has launched an online tender to select a general consultant for the Chennai Metro Rail Phase 2 Project – Corridor 4 (plus parts of Corridors 3 and 5).

The selection will be on a Quality-Cost-Based basis. The proposed Corridor 4 alignment will have a total length of 26km of which 10km will be underground and 16km elevated. It will start from Lighthouse as an underground system and extend westwards, terminating at Poonamallee Bypass.

Of the proposed 30 stations along the route, 12 will be underground and 18 elevated. Two TBMs will be required to excavate twin tunnels located at depths of between 15m–18m below ground. Stations will be excavated by NATM or cut-and-cover.

It is currently envisaged that tunnels will have a 6.35m OD and 5.8m ID, with five segments to a ring plus key. Segments are to be 1.2, 1.4 and 1.5m wide and 275mm thick.
