BTS introduces four CPD courses

Each of the four CPD courses will take place online over three days at specific dates over the next few months. Each will comprise a combination of formal lectures lasting from 12-15 hours in total, with the remaining time taken up by Q&A, discussion and ‘walkthroughs’ of workshop examples. At the end of each course, attendees will receive a certificate for three days’ CPD.

The four courses are:

Introduction to Tunnelling (27-29 April 2021)
This course aims to provide a fundamental understanding of tunnelling in all the major geomaterials.
Main speaker: Prof Colin Eddie, University of Warwick and Managing Director of CECL Global.

Health & Safety in Tunnelling (25-27 May 2021)
Main speaker: Dr Donald Lamont, Hyperbaric & Tunnel Safety
This course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to health and safety in tunnelling.

Tunnel Design (15-17 June 2021)
Main speaker: Dr Alan Bloodworth, Course Director, MSc Tunnelling and Underground Space, University of Warwick.
This course aims to provide attendees with the fundamental knowledge and conceptual framework to be able to undertake tunnel design in soft ground.

Finite Element Analysis in Tunnelling (13-15 July 2021)
Main speaker: Dr Andrew Mar, Technical Director CECL Global.
This course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to the finite element method as applied to tunnelling.

All courses will be held via the Microsoft Teams platform starting each day at 9am BST and concluding around 4.30pm. The fee for each course is £500, reduced to £100 for students who provide evidence of their status from tutors or their university.
