BTS conference opens its doors to the tunnelling fraternity

29 September 2021

Having opened on Thursday 30 September, the two-day BTS 2020+1 British Tunnelling Society annual conference and exhibition held at the QE2 Conference Centre, London has started to welcome visitors from around the world.

And it could not come at a more opportune time – after the various arduous lockdowns – nor be held in a better location. London is currently Europe’s 'capital of tunnelling' and is seeing intense activity in the form of Tideway, HS2, Crossrail 2, Silvertown, the Lower Thames Crossing, Gallions Reach tunnels, Bakerloo Line Extensions and LU Station Upgrades – all either in preparation or under construction.

But the action is not just in London: around the UK are various tunnel schemes that are planned or on site, including at Woodsmith, Hinkley Point C, Stonehenge and others.

All this provides the perfect backdrop for the international tunnelling and underground space fraternity to come together at the prestigious QE11 Conference Centre in the heart of London to learn, digest, discuss and network.

The BTS 2020+1 conference and exhibition resumes after a break in 2020 due to the pandemic. Visitors will be able to participate in a high-level, two-day conference with keynote speeches from some of the tunnelling sector’s most respected names, as well as sit in on cutting-edge research and project-based technical papers that advance the latest thinking in tunnelling.

In parallel to the conference, the exhibition will involve suppliers form around the globe displaying the latest in tunnelling technology, equipment, processes, ancillary services and technical support.

The two-day BTS2020+1 event – 30 September–1 October – is the UK’s largest tunnelling show and should not be missed by tunnelling professionals.
