1 June 2017

US – Akron Ohio’s mayor debuted the completed TBM, manufactured by Robbins, for the Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel (OCIT) on May 25, in Solon, Ohio.

After testing and disassembly, the machine will ship via local highways in about a month, the mayor’s office said.

A joint venture between Illinois-based Kenny Construction Co. and Tokyo-based Obayashi Corp. will bore the tunnel, which will be 27ft (8.3m) in diameter, and span a distance of 6,240ft (1.9km).

According to the City, the USD 184.1M bid by the Kenny/Obayashi JV came in below the Engineer's estimate of USD 252.2M.
