AECOM makes two new appointments to its Canada team

Global infrastructure consultancy AECOM has appointed two international tunnelling experts to its Vancouver practice.

Roberto deMoraes, director of tunnels, and Mike Mains, senior tunnel design lead, have joined the Vancouver tunnelling team.

Nasri Munfah, AECOM director of tunnelling and underground engineering in the Americas, said of the appointments: “The addition of Roberto and Mike to our tunnelling practice strengthens our team’s ability to meet the growing demand for innovative solutions and the latest technologies for tunnelling and underground structures in cities across Canada. In addition to their skills, each brings broad international expertise and best practices gained from working on major projects across the globe.”

deMoraes is a geotechnical and tunnelling engineer with more than 26 years’ international experience in tunnels and underground structures, having worked globally on major projects such as Metro Manila, Dubai Storm Water Tunnel, Norway’s Follo Line and the Devoll hydropower scheme, Albania.

Mains is a senior tunnel engineer with more than 10 years’ international experience. He has worked in the US, Canada, Australia and France, and is an expert on large-diameter tunnel boring machines and sequential excavation. His project experience includes the Grand Paris Express, France, WestConnex M4 East Highway, Australia, and the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct Rehabilitation, California.
