Welcome to T&TI‘s annual ‘Machinery, Plant & Equipment Review’. This definitive guide is subdivided into easy to navigate sections, giving the reader an exhaustive catalogue of the major players and products that help make this unique industry function.

The manufacturer may at times seem a poor cousin to the powerful clients, tenacious contractors and ingenious consultants that appear so regularly on the pages of T&TI. But make no mistake, without these masters of engineering, the wheels of the tunnelling sector would pretty soon grind to a halt.

With reports of a possible 17m diameter TBM on the drawing board (p4) we could be entering a new era for pushing back the boundaries of tunnelling technology. As underground construction schemes become more adventurous and client schedules become tighter, the need for machine availability and reliability becomes greater.

This is in the hands of the very companies within these pages and, reading through this month’s review, it would seem that for the moment they are safe hands indeed.
