Tunnelling completed on Amsterdam¹s north-south line

5 December 2012

TBM Victoria broke through the final section of bored tunnel on Amsterdam's North-South metro line in the early hours of November 30 2012, following two years and eight months since excavation began.

Tunnelling started in March 2010 and four TBMs have been used to build 6.2km of tunnel beneath the city centre. In August this year it was revealed that the last tunnel section of the north-south line that forms the connection between Amsterdam Central Station and the bored tunnels was in place.

The EUR 3.1bn (USD 4M), 9.7km line will have eight stations and is due to open in 2017.
