Thailand’s largest contractor, Italian-Thai Development, has won a US$50.3M tunnelling contract in Bangkok, in joint venture with Japan’s Nishimatsu Construction.

The two firms are members of the IN Consortium, which won the deal from Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to build a 5.3km long drainage tunnel between the Lat Phrao canal and Phra Khanong.

Tunnelling will start early next year at the Lat Phrao canal and continue via the Saen Saeb canal, Sukhumvit 71 road and the Phra Khanong canal before ending at the Phra Khanong water-pumping station. Completion is due in 2006.
