The contract award for a 1.5km long cable tunnel in Sydney, Australia was due to be announced as T&TI went to press. A shortlist of four contractors are in the running for the project that was tendered for in July this year. The four firms are Transfield; Walter Construction; Leighton Contractors and Downer Construction. The 3.5m diameter horseshoe shaped cable tunnel will run from Haymarket to the Surrey Hills suburbs. The project crosses Sydney’s central business district and involves connections to four inner city substations.
