19 October 2021

Following the signing of a US$40m contract with Vestland County Council in Norway, construction firm Skanska is to build a new road tunnel in Kvinnherad municipality, around 75km southeast of Bergen.

The Fv. 500 Folgefonntunnelen-Årsnes project is designed to provide landslide protection to the road between the Folgefonn Tunnel and Årsnes. It includes the construction of 1.4km of tunnel as well as improvements to various stretches of road.

Early contractor involvement has seen Skanska develop plans over the past twelve months in close collaboration with Vestland County Council.

Construction will start in October 2021 and is scheduled for completion in February 2024.
