Mobilisation work continues for the Shiraz metro project in Iran. The first Wirth-NFM Technologies 6.68m diameter TBM was on schedule to be commissioned by the time T&TI went to press, with the second machine due to be finished later this month.

Despite the installation of the shove frames ready to launch, due to logistical problems, the earth pressure balance machines will not start their underground journeys through clay and sands immediately.

A source said that there had been a delay in manufacturing the segments for the tunnel lining. It was thought “there should be enough segments available to launch the first machine [at] the beginning of September”.
