Serbia announces tender for tunnel No. 4

Serbia’s railway infrastructure body Infrastructura Zeleznice Srbije is inviting bids for the construction of a 3.3km-long rail tunnel in the Rasina municipality of central Serbia.

Tunnel no.4 will be located on the Stalac-Junis line which forms part of Pan-European railway corridor X stretching from Salzburg, Austria, through Belgrade and Nis, Serbia, and finally to Thessaloniki, Greece. In addition to the design and construction of the single-tube twin-track tunnel, the scope also includes three escape tunnels, two access roads and other necessary construction work. Electrification, signalling and telecommunications do not form part of the tender.

The estimated value of the work is US$47.4m and will be financed by the European Investment Bank, with a project duration that has been limited to four and a half years. The deadline for applications is 28 September 2021.

In June 2021, a preliminary notice announced the tender for the construction of the Stalac-Junis rail project which was divided into two parts: the first part included the construction of tunnel number 4, as detailed above. The second part included the reconstruction and modernisation of the existing Stalac – Junis line, including the addition of a second track and the construction of four more tunnels, numbers 1,2,3 and 5.
