Odebrecht wins contract scrap

3 December 2010

Odebrecht has been awarded the contract to build Panama City’s first subway line, the 14km Line 1. The bidding (announced in T&TI November 2010 p19) was between Consortium Linea Uno lead by Construtora Norberto Odebrecht (CNO) and Grupo Italiano Metro Panama lead by Impregilo. These were the only two bids made for the project by the deadline on 31 August 2010.

The group headed by Odebrecht has its bid rated at 917 points, compared to the 708 gained by the competition. Odebrecht said it presented the best value for money as well as the best technical bid.

The project will receive an investment of USD 1.5bn and is anticipated to take three years and two months to complete. It is anticipated that the project will benefit up to one million of the total 3.4 million population of Panama. The government is currently studying the possibility of a second line.
