New tunnelling resource for students

17 July 2020

UCA has announced the creation of a new web-based educational resource called ‘Down for That’ which aims to be a one-stop resource for students, but also for professors and industry professionals.

Aiming to impart to students focused information on tunnelling and underground construction, the site will also provide them with opportunities to get involved. All users may use the site for knowledge acquisition and sharing.

According to UCA, the site will allow students to gain knowledge, while educators can support their classes through the library of resources, videos, papers and presentations on underground construction topics.

Paul Schmall, vice president of Keller North America, and UCA board member said: “Exposing [civil engineering students] to the exciting and long-term underground career opportunities early in their academic careers is imperative. This website provides students and educators with access to the tunnelling industry that has been lacking until now.”

The site can be found at www.undergroundcareers.org.

UCA (Underground Construction Association) is a division of US-based SME – the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration.
