In the first major award on Singapore’s new 5.4km Marina Line, Japan’s Nishimatsu Construction, in joint venture with Lum Chang Building Contractors, has won a S$273M (US$150M) design and construct contract for running tunnels from downtown Marina to Stadium Boulevard stations. The group will also build Nicoll Highway and Boulevard stations.

The Marina Line, under the responsibility of the Land Transport Authority, will form the first stage of the Circle Line and will be built wholly underground. Construction will start at the end of this year with completion due in 2006.

The Nishimatsu-Lum Chang JV is currently working on the North-East Line in Singapore and bored tunnels for the Changi Airport extension.
