ITA requests WTC2020 refund increase
30 July 2020Following the pledge made by the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) to refund 70% of monies received from registrants for the now cancelled WTC2020 conference, the ITA is now urging the IEM to reconsider and increase the level of refund.
The move comes in the light of the review by the ITA Executive Council (ExCo) task force which reviewed IEM’s financial position and which forms the basis of ITA’s urging of IEM to “offer the largest refund possible”.
In a recent statement the ITA said: “In the spirit of transparency to our constituents, ITA has invited Malaysia to present their financial accounts at the virtual General Assembly in September and explain the basis for the level of refund being offered.”
But IEM has allegedly “sent two notices that have made the refund conditional to additional processes: one includes a sign-off that refunds will be accepted in full, in effect waiving any further action on behalf of the participants/exhibitors/sponsors, and another requiring authors to create and provide to IEM a presentation video. Neither notice was sent with ITA knowledge or approval.”
The statement concluded: “ITA encourages IEM to stand behind its refund commitment without condition …and also encourages the tunnelling industry to support IEM’s virtual WTC 2020 event.”
