South Korean contractor Samsung has won a $55m contract to build two tunnels as part of a new hydroelectric dam project in northern India. Awarded by India’s National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, the contract involves construction of a 4.4km long water transfer tunnel and a 330m dropshaft tunnel for the dam on the Dhauliganga River. Work is scheduled for completion in June 2004.
