Hochtief-Zublin JV secures Cityringen contract

18 June 2014

Hochtief, together with Züblin, signed a EUR 150M (USD 203.15M) contract with public transportation company Metroselskabet I/S to expand the subway network in Copenhagen, the company announced on June 11.

The tunneling project is part of the Cityringen, or City Circle Line, in the Danish capital. In addition to construction of a total of more than 3.5km of tunnel, the project also comprises the turnkey delivery of the Nordhavn subway station. To this end, the joint venture which consists of HOCHTIEF Infrastrucure Nordic branch and Züblin A/S will mine two approximately 1,800m- and 1,600m-long tunnels TBM.

Beside the roughly 80m-long Nordhavn subway station, the joint venture will also construct a small tunnel and a ramp structure, a service shaft/emergency exit and a pedestrian transfer tunnel to the adjacent, already existing S-train urban rail station Nordhavn. This will provide the area at Copenhagen's "northern harbor" with a link to the capital's subway ring while making it possible to switch directly between the transportation systems.

"With this project, we continue to grow systematically in the Scandinavian infrastructure market and thus go on positioning ourselves as a strong provider for the expansion of modern and sustainable transportation infrastructure in Europe," said Wilfried Rammler, general manager of HOCHTIEF Infrastructure GmbH.

The works on the project will start as early as in June this year and will be completed in 2019.
