Contractors look set to be invited to prequalify by 1 October for the first phase of Cairo’s US$1bn, 33km long Line 3 metro, between Cairo and Imbada, which involves the construction of 5km of tunnel and five stations. Systra, the specialist French transport consultant, has completed preliminary designs. The Egyptian government has yet to agree finance for the project, although the EIB is prepared to advance funding.
