Crossrail has invited contractors to bid for a contract covering the reconstruction of the Connaught Tunnel in East London. The project covers the Custom House to North Woolwich section on the £15.9bn Crossrail project’s southern spur and is expected to take for years to complete.

Work to be carried out under contract C315 includes construction of a new tunnel lining through a 105m stretch of the tunnel as well as repairing a long stretch of Victorian brick arches running for 500m in the approaches to the tunnel.

There will also be various surface railway works including improvements to drainage, footbridges and under-track crossings.

The deadline for submission of pre-qualification questionnaires is 5 July.
