If approved by the government, construction could begin as early as 2017, with the route operational by 2030. The original Crossrail project is scheduled to begin to enter operation in 2018.

Although 2015 will see much weighing of options, the basic plan is for a tunnel from Tottenham Hale in the north to Wimbledon in the south, a 36km-long drive at a depth of 30m.

In a recent consultation, support for Crossrail Two is high. Some 83 per cent of respondents ‘strongly supported’, or just ‘supported’ Crossrail 2. And 78 per cent of stakeholders answered the question regarding support for the scheme, and from those 95 per cent ‘support’ or ‘strongly support’ the project.
