Copenhagen metro project to receive first TBM

8 November 2012

The first EPM TMP valued at EUR 7M (USD 8.9M) for the metro project in Copenhagen will arrive at the Aprilia headquarters later this month, Seli has announced. The machine will be delivered in the presence of the joint venture < Salini, Tecnimont and Seli < and the Danish client, Metroselskabet.

Tunnel excavation for the metro development, known as the Cityringen project, will be performed by four TBMs having an excavation diameter of 5.78m. The project is expected to be completed by 2015, and fully operational by 2018.

The Cityringhen project consists of a new circular line in the city centre featuring two 17.4km tunnels and 17 new stations all at 30m below the surface. This presents a particular technical challenge, as the city is at sea level. When completed, the metro will run continually for 24 hours per day. The driverless, automatic train system will transport an estimated 130 million passengers annually.
