Contract awarded for Kvitsoy spur tunnel
19 August 2021Norway-based contracting joint venture Hæhre and Risa has won the 3.5km E15 Kvitsoy spur tunnel contract which forms part of the Rogfast project in the southwest of the country.
The US$70m award comprises the construction of a 3,480m long, two-lane road tunnel connecting the island community of Kvitsoy and the main Rogfast tunnel at a slope of 7%. The contract also includes the construction of a section of road, three bridges and sea embankments.
Hæhre has a 55% share of the contract and will undertake the tunnelling and bridge construction, while Risa will carry out transport and landfill work. Work will start in September 2021 and is scheduled for completion in May 2024.
The spur tunnel will link the tiny Kvitsoy island community (population around 600) with the Rogfast Tunnel which, at 26.7km long, will be the world’s longest and deepest underwater road tunnel, reducing travel times between Stavanger and Bergen by 40 minutes.
