Buchan awarded Shieldhall ring supply contract
21 August 2015GREAT BRITAIN – Buchan Underground was recently awarded a contract to supply 3,277 precast rings for the Shieldhall Tunnel project in Glasgow. Each 4.56m-diameter ring is made up of six segments, each weighing 2300kg that equates to over 19,500 segments to be supplied to the project.
Production is due to commence in September 2015 and will run for 62 weeks, with final delivery anticipated in December 2017.
The Shieldhall Tunnel in Glasgow is the largest wastewater tunnel in Scotland. It will transfer waste water, provide storage in heavy rainfall and will be excavated by a Herrenknecht TBM.
Scottish Water awarded Costain/VINCI JV the contract to build the 5km tunnel which is 4.56m in diameter.
