Australia – Bechtel has opened an office in Melbourne. It stated that the move was to pick up work from the Victorian Government’s AUD 100bn infrastructure pipeline.

Bechtel has been in Australia for more than 65 years, mainly in the resources sector and is now getting more involved in infrastructure projects, such as the Sydney Metro and Western Sydney Airport.

Bechtel Australia chair Leigh Clifford said, “The Victorian Government has outlined a world class pipeline of infrastructure projects in its Big Build program that we believe we are well placed to help build. We can add the necessary extra capacity to the Victorian marketplace by accessing our established Australian workforce and drawing on the expertise and experience of our vast global network. This pipeline of projects, a positive investment framework and a welcoming environment for new players means we see a bright future in Victoria.”

A spokesperson for Bechtel added, “With the opening of their office on Melbourne’s Collins Street, Bechtel is actively seeking to engage in Victoria’s infrastructure market, primarily in rail, aviation and road markets. Bechtel’s people have designed and constructed some of Australia’s most significant infrastructure on which the region’s economy is built. Bechtel projects have often been Australian or industry firsts, with many in remote locations and under challenging conditions.”
